Historic Hermoupolis in Syros once again welcomes international arrivals for the largest Greek animation festival!

For a third consecutive year the animasyros 3.0 International Animation Film Festival & Forum returns to Hermoupolis from September 30 to October 3, 2010, and invites you all to enjoy it.
The historic Apollo Theater opens its gates to host screenings of films from all over the world, presentations from major international festivals such as the Canterbury Anifest from Great Britain and The Animation Workshop from Denmark, and the competition section with international participations.
At the same time, the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Hermoupolis is organizing educational workshops for students from Syros island and animation students, by renowned Greek and international professionals from the field of animation.
Finally, for a second consecutive year, the professional forum is organized, taking place during the festival and attracting animation professionals from all over the world, such as directors, producers, and distributors. The forum aims at bringing those professionals closer together, to present new developments in the field and to explore the possibilities of cooperation that the animation industry has to offer. Among others, the festival is organized with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Athens and will feature the award-winning director and animator Gesine Krätzner, representing one of the most important production companies worldwide, LAIKA Animation Studios.
The forum will commence on Thursday, September 30, while the official opening ceremony will take place on Friday, October 1, at the Apollo Theater, during which time Syros’ Philharmonic will introduce us to some music by the island’s composers. The animasyros 3.0 will open the screenings with the award-winning animated film, Coraline, also nominated this year for an Oscar for best animation film.
For the first time this year, special screenings for children are taking place, on Saturday, October 2 and Sunday, October 3, while a jewelry workshop from recycled materials will be set up at the picturesque main square of Hermoupolis. More information will soon be available.
Call for entries have already begun! You can submit your form electronically until September 5, 2010, and for the first time this year, creators will be able to submit their film under the special category “Environment & Recycling.”

The festival is an initiative by Platforma- Urban Culture Co and is co-organized with the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Hermoupolis, the Prefectural Administration of Cyclades, in cooperation with mscomm media company, the University of the Aegean, Athens TEI, and is under the auspices of ASIFA in Greece.
