The new trend in breakdancing presented by the best of the kind

On Saturday October 10, The Battle of the Best opened its doors for its annual “battle” of the most talented breakdancers at the ACS Artscenter in Halandri. Mosaiko.gr was there and had a chance to meet with the American members of the jury committee, work renowned Rockadile and Bboy Ronnie, who flew straight from Las Vegas for this event.

How did you get started in breakdancing?

Rockadile: When I was younger these kids showed me a video of the movie “beat street” and I decided then and there that I wanted to breakdance.

Ronnie: I first started bboying at the age of 10 in 1993. I was inspired by my older brother and watching old school movies like ‘Beat Street’. Since then I never stopped and it eventually turned into a career for me.

Tell us a bit about bboying.

Rockadile: bboying is the perfect way to express myself and let out all the energy I have inside.

Ronnie: Bboying is a major part of the Hip Hop movement. It is a form of a self- expression and it allows you to be innovative.  Although there is a solid foundation to bboying you are able to add creativity to your own style.

What are your biggest influences which ultimately affect your style?

Rockadile: Music totally dictates my style and how I am feeling at the moment.

Ronnie: My Style is greatly influenced by my crew Full Force. My crew has a very intricate approach to bboying and it is something that we all started together. This style includes threading, footwork, and multiple air freezes.

Have you ever been to Greece before? What should the audience expect to see?

Rockadile: I have never been to Greece and I love it here! yamas! hahahah. The audience can expect electrifying energy and from my throwdowns on stage…hahhha

Ronnie: This is my first time in Greece and it has been one of my greatest experiences! I appreciate the Culture and the people are very welcoming. The audience should expect originality and rawness.

What is next for you?

Rockadile: Μy crew supercr3w is officially a business now it is actually the first bboy llc in America. So we are trying to keep our company running smoothly and build it bigger and bigger. We are starting to travel abroad more because our season of Americas best dance crew is now playing in other countries. Hopefully we can come back to Greece with the full cast and put on a great show for everyone!

Ronnie: Just touring with Super Cr3w, working with Red Bull, and promoting their upcoming Movie ‘Turn it Loose’, a bboy documentary (check it out at www.turnitloosemovie.com). Hopefully one day come back to Greece!
