AHEPA Journey to Greece

Friday, July 9 began with a visit to the U.S. Embassy. We had the opportunity for a briefing from two members of the Embassy who work closely with Ambassador Speckhard. First to speak was Mr. George H. Frowick, the Counselor for Political Affairs. Mr. Frowick gave us a detailed overview of relations between Greece and the United States. Included in his presentation was a discussion on the FYROM question, Aegean Sea dispute, and Greece’s illegal immigration issues. When the visa-waiver program was brought up, Mr. Frowick was very pleased with the work AHEPA contributed to its passage in the United States. Following this was our second speaker, Mr. Tom Miller, the Counselor for Public Affairs. With experience in serving economic-related positions, Mr. Miller’s presentation discussed Greece’s current economic and debt crisis, how it is being solved, and how it originated. He also explained how Greece has passed the EU and IMF austerity measures that were very difficult but will prove to usher in a new era for Greek government. The two opened the floor to questions on both foreign policy and economic issues, such as the Turkey EU Ascension program, Agenda 2012, and the recovery plan for Greece.
