Pink Martini are considered one of the most successful lounge-jazz groups with a loyal following that made the Sympatique album plantinum and Hang on Little Tomato gold. They will be in Athens, Greece on 8 July at the Lycabettus Theatre with a brand-new CD. Their success stems from the imagination and freshness of their music, which combines retro and jazz themes with rock and pop rhythms.

Pink Martini return to Athens, Greece once again to transport the audience from France of the inter-war years to mysterious Arabia, from modern-day New York to Havana of the ’30s, and from exotic Saint Tropez to mystical China.

The 12-member band features musicians from different countries and representing a variety of musical influences, from classical to jazz and rock. It was formed in 1994 by pianist and Harvard graduate Thomas Lauderdale as a small four-member orchestra based in Portland, Oregon. In 1997, they were joined by vocalist China Forbes who had worked with Lauderdale many times before while they were students at Harvard.
