MARY COX

Athens-based artist Mary Cox has been selected to participate this summer in a unique international art exhibition in the north of Sweden:  the Lulea Art Biennial 2011.  Mary will show ten pieces from her series, “From Another Place”, multi-media works that explore the theme of immigration in Greece.  Mary has resided in Athens since 1993 and holds both American and Greek citizenship. As an outsider herself, Mary is sensitive to the experience of foreigners and moved by the tenacity of immigrants to the goal of a better life.

Organized by Kilen Art Group, an artist-run organization now in its 20th year, and sponsored by the Swedish Arts Council, Luleå Art Biennial is the oldest biennial in Scandinavia and also the world’s northernmost. Twenty-five artists from around the world will present work in all media: installations, video, photography, printmaking and painting. The exhibition will take place at The Art Hall in Luleå and at the Regional Museum of Norrbotten. The Biennial opens on the 22nd of June, and runs until the 14th of September.
