Grammy and Handy Award candidate John Primer is truly “the Real Deal.” A talented composer and lyricist with an endless list of songs and unforgettable sound, Primer and his Real Deal Blues Band electrify audiences while remaining a moving force on the blues scene today. They will be appearing at the Half Note Jazz Club from 23 to 29 April.

Having played with major names like Sammy Lawhorn, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Smokey Smothers, Lonnie Brooks and many other pioneers of the genre, he has managed to a large extent to shape the Chicago Blues scene.

He formed his first band, the Maintainers, in 1964 and embarked on a series of collaborations and experiences using his old Harmony guitar.

A blues master who believed in Primer was none other than “Hoochie Coochie Man” Muddy Waters, who took him on as guitarist as well as his opening act. He was close to a father for John Primer, instilling in him a passion for the music that gave birth to rock’n'roll.
