The City of Athens Cultural Centre presents a group exhibition of contemporary Mexican artists titled “Two Oceans, One Sea” from 17 to 29 May. The show in Athens, Greece is being staged in observance of the 200th anniversary of Mexican Independence and aims to bring together artists and the public of the two countries so that this relatively unknown aspect of Mexico can become known to Greece.
The sea and oceans that have separated and linked people and cultures for years become the pretext upon which the artistic interests of their creators can intersect.
The idea began with artist Sofia Kyriakaki, who lives and works in Mexico, with the aim of creating networks and collaborations among artists on an international level, as well as the need of contemporary creativity to escape from its narrow geographic constraints and become a starting point for dialogue with different audiences and contexts.
