Poetry Slam is a poetry contest. The participants dictate their original piece of work. The performance lasts for three minutes and takes place in front of a committee of three judges and the audience.

26 years after the first Slam in Chicago, Athens Slam Poetry joins the party and tries to take poetry to a next level, in a quest for new forms of expression by the Greek poets. The first Athens Poetry Slam took place during November 2009 at Exarheia. The second one will take place on February 1, 2010 at the Kanaria (Plataiwn & Kerameikou) in Kerameikos area, on February 2, 2010 at the Patakis bookshop (Akadimias 65) and on February 3, 2010 at Bacaro (Sofokleous 1) at 20:00.
