6th Concert Series Around the Piano

A Festival of Chamber Music, unique in its kind in Greece, has been taking place over the last six years; the main idea behind this Festival has remained unchanged and aims at introducing many and significant musicians in a repertoire both varied and original and with the piano «that enigmatic box with the long chords» according to Schnittke, as the central instrument …
The series of concerts, around the piano, which this year takes place for the first time at the Parnassos Concert Hall, on November 6, 11 & 13, 2010, provides a unique opportunity for the Athenian audience and for visitors, to listen to young and established musicians from Greece and abroad, many of whom will be appearing in Athens for the first time.
This year’s concerts are the following:
Saturday November 6, at 20:30
«Many hands on the piano, many voices around the piano»
Part A
The piano trio Some Handsome Hands includes German pianists Anne Salié and Alina Pronina and the Greek pianist Xenia Kourkoumeli, who perform for the first time in Greece; their program includes works for six hands on one piano by Saint-Saëns, Mozart, Rossini, Rachmaninov and Strauss.
Part B
A group of young and distinguished musicians from Slovenia, members of the Maribor Opera House, soprano Ines Popović, mezzo-soprano Katerina Roussou, tenor Primož Vidovič, baritone Jure Počkaj and pianist Marko Hribernik, perform arias, duets and trios from operas by Mozart, Ravel, Gounod, Massenet among others.

“I got Rhythm”
Part A
American pianist Spencer Myer, who has been recognized as one of the most important pianists of his generation, and soprano Myrsini Margariti will be performing together for the first time works by American composers, following an invitation by the series around the piano.
Part B
The world famous clarinetist Michel Portal and pianist Yaron Herman will be making a unique appearance in Greece, performing jazz improvisations based on American tunes.

Part A
French pianist Philippe Alègre and soprano Sevan Manoukian present a rich program including works from the French Romantic period until the present day.
Magda Mavroyanni, the actress-director will be presenting and reciting librettos
Part B
Αccording to the Times, the Psophos Quartet is «probably the best string quartet in Europe». “PSOPHOS” Quartet will perform String Quartet No.1 by Rachmaninov and the famous Concert pour piano – violon et quatuor à cordes by Chausson.
